Muller Recycler

 Muller Recycler

This machine will allow us to adapt within a fast changing environment to ensure we provide efficient customer solutions and remain the North West's leading environmental company.

Why we invested in a Muller Recycler?

In order to ensure we remain the leading environmental company in the North West, we researched what equipment to invest in and decided the Muller Recycler was the best solution for us. It is very relevant to water conservation and generally a much more environmentally friendly option than previous equipment on the market.

The traditional method for sewer cleaning in Ireland has involved using “jet-vac trucks”. These machines are equipped with high pressure water pumps coupled to jetting hose reels and suction pumps coupled to suction hoses, There are 2 tanks onboard this truck, one tank holds clean water and the other tank holds the debris and waste water sucked up from the sewer or drain.

New Technology and High Performance:

2 large pumps, a 406L/min HP water pump and a 4000m3/hr suction pump. we can finish big jobs more efficiently and quickly than the traditional Jet Vac. Deep pumping stations, for example, can be completed in less than half the time it would have taken before. The high volume suction will literally lift concrete blocks from the bottom of almost any sump.

The sewer or drain cleaning process is carried out in the following manner.

  • * The clean water tank is filled up with water (This clean water is taken at fire hydrants from the drinking water network).
  • * The jetting hose is inserted into the sewer via a manhole and the clean water is pumped through the jetting hose and jetting nozzle at the end of the hose.
  • * This process effectively power washes the inside of sewer and pulls the debris from the sewer to the manhole.
  • * The debris and waste water in the manhole is then sucked up into the debris tank of the truck for disposal at a landfill site.

Using the traditional method of cleaning we can see that on an average “Jet Vac truck”  will use the following amount of perfectly good drinking water and literally flush it down the sewer.

  • Typical pump flow rate: 330 l/min
  • Typical operating hours per day: 4 hours (conservative figure based on time lost moving between manholes and waiting for clean water tank to fill from hydrant)
  • Typical Daily usage: 79,200 litres of drinking water.
  • Typical Weekly Usage: 396,000 litres of drinking water
  • Typical Annual Usage: 20592000 litres of drinking water
  • 20,592 cubic metres of drinking water

So we can see that a typical sewer cleaning truck uses 20,592 cubic metres of drinking water in 1 year. We estimate that there are 250 sewer cleaning trucks similar to this operating in Ireland. This means that every year in Ireland 5,148,000 cubic metres of perfectly good drinking water is flushed into drains and sewers during the cleaning process.

It is clear to see that using drinking water in this way is not sustainable into the future. Briefly outlined below are the alternative solution which has been in use in Germany and across Europe since the late 1970’s. The problem as previously outlined is the huge waste of drinking water and the increase in volume of waste water that must be treated in the treatment works. The solution to this problem is sewer cleaning using water recycling. The sewer cleaning process is similar to the traditional “Jet-Vac truck” system, the Recycler truck is equipped with high-pressure water pumps coupled to jetting hose reels and suction pumps coupled to suction hoses, There are 2 tanks onboard the truck, one tank holds Recycled water and the other tank holds the debris sucked up from the sewer or drain.

The sewer or drain cleaning process is carried out in the following manner.

  •  Water can be sucked up from any location, sewers, drains, rivers etc into the recycler. The water and debris that is sucked up is separated inside the Recycler truck so that the debris stays in the debris tank for disposal and the separated water is used for the purpose of sewer cleaning.
  •  The jetting hose is inserted into the sewer via a manhole and the Recycled water is pumped through the jetting hose and jetting nozzle at the end of the hose.
  •  This process effectively power washes the inside of the sewer and pulls the debris from the sewer to the manhole.
  •  The truck is continuously sucking from the manhole and automatically recycling the water and waste sucked from the manhole.

Health & Safety

From a health and safety point of view, the Muller Recycler reduced the need to enter confined spaces because the Recycler can wash, vacuum and remove any debris from sumps without the need for man-entry. Environment: As the name suggests, the Recycler will ‘recycle’ water and waste water for the purposes of washing and jetting. This means there is a drastic reduction in the amount of clean drinking water wasted in the drain cleaning process. Efficiency: The water recycling technology allows you to save precious clean water rather to be wasted on sewer cleaning.
